Devising a Study Programme
VTCT has a comprehensive suite of qualifications that can be used to design exciting and rewarding Study Programmes. The backbone of a Study Programme is the substantial qualification which will typically make up at least half a programme. VTCT has a variety of qualifications that can be used as the substantial qualification in the following sectors:

  • Hairdressing & Barbering
  • Beauty Therapy, Nails & Spa
  • Sport & Active Leisure
  • Hospitality & Catering
  • Customer Service
Please click here to view our substantial vocational qualifications. Some of VTCT’s qualifications feature in the Department for Education’s 2016 Level 3 Performance Tables for 16- to 19-year-olds in the Technical Level category. These have slightly lower guided learning hours (GLH) than other qualifications. Despite having a lower minimum GLH, this is exactly that, a minimum. You can select optional units to tailor qualifications which meet the needs of your learners and fit with your centre’s timetable. For example, a qualification with a minimum 350 GLH could be increased to 450 GLH with the addition of optional units - at no extra charge.

As a centre devising Study Programmes you are advised not to feel constrained by qualifications included on the Performance Tables, the Department for Education states:

Schools and colleges may offer qualifications that are not included in the performance tables, if approved for teaching to 16-19 year olds, and in all cases should act as they judge to be in the best interests of their students.”

VTCT also provides a complete discounted Study Programme package which includes up to eight regulated qualifications for one fee. Click here to download our Study Programme brochure.

The New Technical Baccalaureate (TechBacc)
Qualifications included in the Technical Level category of Performance Tables also count towards a new TechBacc performance measure. This will recognise the highest level of technical training achieved by students aged 16-19. To achieve the TechBacc, learners will need to obtain:

• an approved level 3 Technical Level qualification
• an approved level 3 mathematics qualification[1]
• the Extended Project Qualification.
