The DfE has today issued a Press Release giving details of the criteria for inclusion of a qualification in the 14 – 16 Performance Tables for 2014. These criteria are reprinted below.
It is VTCT’s intention, wherever possible, to ensure that all our qualifications on offer for the 14 – 16 marketplace will meet these criteria in time for a 2013 start. If you have any questions please email

Further Information
Minimum requirements for inclusion:
1. Accreditation – a qualification will only count in the 2014 performance tables, if it:
- was accredited by 22 July 2011; or
- is a new version of a qualification that had been accredited by 22 July 2011, and is accredited by the end of January 2012.
2. Appropriate size – a qualification will need to be least 120 GLH
3. Appropriate content – a qualification will need to demonstrate:
- develop an understanding of a particular curriculum or vocational sector
- acquire a significant transferable knowledge core that will support progression within that area of study and more broadly; and
- study a subject matter that is appropriate for a qualification for this age group.
No qualifications that do not meet these three requirements will be included in performance tables in 2014.
Additional Characteristics
Qualifications that meet the minimum requirements for inclusion in performance tables will be assessed for evidence of additional characteristics.
For a qualification to count in performance tables in 2014, it will need to demonstrate, as a minimum:
- External assessment
- Synoptic assessment
OR
- Progression
- Proven track record
