HSE requirements for teaching Emergency First Aid at Work 

The HSE require teachers to hold specific qualifications to be able to deliver Emergency First Aid at Work. If you are delivering the AG20176 Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF), AF20023 Level 2 Award in Activity First Aid (QCF)  or AF30096 Level 3 Diploma in the Prevention and Management of Sports Injuries (QCF) please click here for guidance on teaching requirements. The VTCT Level 3 Award in Adapting Physical Activity for People with Disabilities (QCF) has been designed for fitness professionals currently working in sport and active leisure, including personal trainers, advanced fitness instructors, advanced exercise to music instructors, yoga, Pilate’s instructors. The purpose of this specialist qualification is to enrich fitness professionals’ knowledge and understanding of disability and its implications for practice in order to meet a higher duty of care. It will enable fitness professionals to apply this knowledge and understanding when conducting pre-exercise screening, and when developing, adapting and implementing physical activity programmes to meet the needs of people with disabilities. It will also develop effective teaching, instruction and communication skills.

Progression: This qualification is focused on competent practitioners who plan, conduct and review programmes to address the needs of people with disabilities, working without supervision. Graduates of this programme will be equipped to work independently with people with disabilities or those with medical conditions carrying a low risk of adverse, exercise-related events. This qualification is recognised as an approved qualification for continued professional development (CPD) by the Register of Exercise Professionals at Level 3. It also provides progression opportunities to additional VTCT Level 3 qualifications.
