Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the most frequently asked questions regarding the plan for adaptations for End-point Assessments in the academic year 2020/2021.
Yes, VTCT’s Apprenticeship Assessors will still come out to training providers to carry out the End-point Assessments.
Infection Prevention qualifications are now a prerequisite for all VTCT/iTEC qualifications where learners are working practically with clients.
Scenario 3 Dispensation:
The following dispensations can only be applied in extenuating circumstances due to Government restrictions or where the Government guidelines preclude the full End-point Assessment being completed due to social distancing or limited space restrictions. An example of this may be the size of a hairdressing salon in relation to the number of individuals required to facilitate an End-point Assessment. If your hairdressing salon is larger enough to accommodate social distancing, these dispensations do not apply.
A mannequin head may only be used to demonstrate a hair-up style, curly blow-dry (which creates volume, movement and curl) and setting technique during the End-point Assessment. Please refer to page 5 of the Hair Professional EPA flexibilities and dispensations guidance that was published.
Yes, they can still use 3 clients for the End-point Assessment. However, it is recommended that clients are kept to a minimum to avoid as much contact with individuals where possible.
If the apprentices can complete the End-point Assessment with 1 or 2 clients, this would be beneficial. We do have some example EPA schedules to demonstrate how this can be done. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like access to these.
Level 3 Apprenticeship
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Advanced and Creative Hairdressing qualification (HB3D12) went live on the 1st August 2020. This qualification is a supporting qualification to prepare the apprentices for their Level 3 End-point Assessment.
The Level 3 End-point Assessment does not go live until February 2021. This is the same for all End-point Assessment Organisations. All documentation for the Level 3 End-point Assessment will be available from VTCT before this End-point Assessment goes live.
Please visit the IfATE website where you can access the Advanced and Creative Assessment Plan for the Level 3 End-point Assessment which outlines what the apprentice will have to do during their End-point Assessment.
You can still register for the HB3N2 qualification, but not as part of the frameworks as the frameworks were switched off in July 2020. The HB3N2 qualification would not support the apprentices in preparation for their level 3 End-point Assessment.
