Barbering Service Code of Practice raising standards in the barbering industry

The BBA Barbering Service Code of Practice, has been well received by barber professionals, training academy, colleges and educators, it is aimed at everyone in the barbering and men’s grooming business.

The British Barbers Association (BBA) Code of Practice: Barbering Services is the most definitive guide for the sector ever published, and covers the key knowledge every business, professional and learner needs to know.

The Code covers areas such as hygiene and safe working practice, client consultation, wet shaving, facial massage and chemical barbering services, with authoritative advice throughout on personal protective equipment (PPE), waste disposal, skin conditions and infections, sterilisation of equipment and contra-indications.

Although compliance with the Code will be voluntary, the BBA will be promoting it widely throughout the barbering industry and to key stakeholders such as local authorities, environmental health officers, government agencies and consumer magazines to demonstrate the high standards that already exist.

Debbie Donaldson from Dundee and Angus College said: “We as a team really like the booklet as do the barber students! This booklet promotes high standards of good working practises in Barbering. The information is short and sharp and is imperative to know to have a successful and safe career within in the Barber Industry.”

Sandy Cooper from The Mad American Barbershop said: “Having been associated with the BBA for only a short period, I have been pleasantly surprised at the level of health and safety that they are trying to make standard practice in our industry. The new booklet has made it clear for my experienced barbers as well as Jr. Barbers. ”

What’s more, the Code will help to demonstrate to the wider public and enforcement agencies the already high standards and exceptional levels of professionalism in the industry. The BBA will be actively promoting the Code to everyone connected to the barbering industry and beyond to ensure that the guidance contained within it is widely understood and that our fellow professionals get the recognition they deserve’.
