Frequently Asked Questions

Below we will add any frequently asked questions that we receive relating to this webinar.

General

Where is the supporting documentation?

It has not been finally released yet but will be available on the Apprenticeships section of the website under the Level 3 Apprenticeship 12 step process. You will be able to access it from here.

Our learners will be doing the observation and technical demonstration in the college rather than at their employers, do we need to officially notify VTCT of venue, or fill in a form?

You can disclose your EPA location on the booking request form and it is the same process if the EPA is to be hosted at the employer’s premises or training provider premises.

Can you explain why the EPA has to be one to one?

The requirement of a one to one End-point Assessment was decided by the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education and the beauty employer steering group, not by VTCT.

All apprenticeship standards are devised and published by IfATE and must be adhered to by End-point Assessment Organisations.

Will we receive a log book like we do for the level 2 beauty standards?

There is no log book for the on-programme stage as the Advanced Beauty Therapist standard does not contain a mandatory qualification, unlike the Beauty Professional standard.

Will there be any sample knowledge tests?

Yes, there will be a sample knowledge test.

Is it down to the employer/ training provider to determine advanced body massage techniques? Or is VTCT stipulating methods/ ranges?

The techniques that must be covered are contained in the assessment plan.

The following techniques must be demonstrated in the EPA:

  • effleurage
  • petrissage
  • tapotement
  • vibration and friction
  • deep tissue
  • light touch
  • lymphatic drainage and pressure point massage
  • advanced techniques using the forearm, wrist and elbow

What information will be required on the treatment log?

Evidence of the apprentice conducting the required 15 technical therapies. This evidence is generated during the on-programme stage of the Advanced Beauty Therapist Apprenticeship Standard.

Can the journal of learning evidence be used?

Yes, if it covers the required knowledge, skills and behaviours.
