EPAO Services

We provide End-point Assessment services

All apprenticeship standards must contain an end-point assessment. These must be conducted by independent End-point Assessment organisations to ensure that all apprentices following the same standard are assessed in a fair and standardised manner.

VTCT is registered as an End-point Assessment organisation for Hairdressing and Barbering and Beauty Therapy. You can apply to have us undertake the assessments for you. See the documents and application below to assist you with this process.

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) have announced an additional discretionary option of a package of evidence and professional discussion to replace an EPA, for circumstances where it is not possible for an EPA to take place, or in exceptional circumstances where it would not be appropriate to proceed with a practical EPA in a salon environment. Working together with and guided by the qualification regulators, we are monitoring the ongoing situation. If you have any questions regarding this please contact epa@vtct.org.uk or customersupport@vtct.org.uk.

What is an End-point Assessment Organisation?

The End-point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) plays a crucial role in the apprenticeship journey. The End-point Assessment is the final assessment that the apprentice will undertake to measure them against the requirements of the apprenticeship standard. It is critical that the EPAO is an impartial and distinct organisation separate from the Awarding Body that delivers the on-programme component of the apprenticeship standard. The EPAO works closely with the training provider to ensure that both the apprentice and the employer are aware of the requirements for the End-point Assessment of each apprenticeship standard.

As an End-point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) for the Hair Professional and Beauty Professional standards, VTCT has a proven track record of reliable and effective quality assurance practices. These have been externally assured by Ofqual and, of course, meet or exceed the requirements. VTCT also maintains a continuous internal review process of End-point Assessment to ensure a standardised approach across all Apprenticeship Assessors and to maintain the integrity of assessment practices and procedures.

In order to meet the needs of the industry, VTCT has established strong relationships with employers and training providers, regularly engaging with them through employer panels, regional network meetings and other events. VTCT has also established a Skills Advisory Board (SAB) which is comprised of employers from the hairdressing and beauty therapy sectors. SAB helps evaluate new strategic developments ensuring VTCT continues to meet the core needs of employers and training providers.
