Infection Prevention Qualification FAQs
VTCT has a duty of care to its centres and learners, and this requirement has been introduced to ensure that learners have the appropriate treatment/service specific knowledge and awareness of COVID-19 infection prevention measures in order to ensure their own safety and the safety of their clients, when undertaking practical treatments and services for VTCT qualifications.
The achievement of this knowledge content is an essential curriculum addition for practitioners in 2020 and 2021, to ensure our qualifications remain current and valid.
VTCT has agreed with our various regulators that withdrawing all our qualifications and re-regulating our qualifications with new additional curriculum content and assessment criteria and requirements would cause mass disruption for centres and learners.
In addition, withdrawing and regulating newly updated qualifications would have had serious funding consequences to core qualifications, due to the UK Government’s current and ongoing funding review.
Additionally, embedding the infection prevention measures within existing qualifications would have required a much longer timeframe, and it was important for VTCT to enable the industries we serve to re-open as soon as possible following COVID lockdowns and to ensure that learners are fully equipped to enter the industry with an awareness of coronavirus prevention procedures specifically for the treatments and services included in their qualifications; therefore, VTCT introduced the infection prevention measures as standalone pre-requisite qualifications.
Learners will receive an additional regulated qualification which provides them with valid and reliable credentials, valued by employers, clients and the wider education system. As such, there are associated costs of assessment, quality assurance and certification. However, VTCT has ensured that the registration fee is nominal and appropriate for the public health circumstance.
These qualifications are also eligible for funding.
